The bible is full of great teams and great friends, people who were joined in organic friendships rather than organizational function. From the middle of nowhere one character arrives on the scene and dominates all of what is happening around him. He is brilliant, inspirational, spiritual.
Israel saw David as theirs, in the identification of David as leader, it was important for the people of Israel to see that they were of the same ” flesh and blood ” as their new leader. He is rooted into these people and they into him. They can’t get away from him and he can’t get away from them.
The man surrounding David were men of considerable courage. They follow the inevitabilities of their love and respect of David and appear to be unafraid of the consequences. David’s team emerge from the experience of living and surviving together with him in the cave at Adullam. These shared experience
Were one of the foundation stones of the powerful team which developed out of the adversity of those experiences.
