David wrote that God was not only his lamp but also his fortress. A lamp shows us the way ahead so we need never be in uncertainty or confusion. A fortress is our place of refuge whenever the attacks of the enemy come, and they will come increasingly as we walk toward God.
Many times when David was pursued by Saul, when his burdens seemed too heavy, he had refreshed himself in the presence of the Rock of Israel. Then too the Rock was the place to which Moses spoke and from which water came out and quenched the thirst of the people in their distress in the wilderness.
Do you know the God as your lamp and your refuge?
If you do, you can face the future with absolute confidence. A source of direction and a source of protection – that is all we need.
