Mathew 18: 1-4
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”. Whoever becomes humble like this child is greatest in the kingdom heaven.
When we grow from child to adult, with the flow of the world, we are trying to become more clever and practical. A kind of pride will generate in us, we always try to show differently, stand best amongst. These pride and selfishness take us away from the humbleness of what Jesus was taught us. As we grow mature practically we will change and will try to compete the world with our God given gifts. The pride and selfishness force us to assume the God given blessings as a fruit of self hard work and efforts.
Disciples question to Jesus was very interesting. They must have expected a long list of does and don’t does from Jesus, to enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus’ answer was so impressive and sounds too simple with the demonstration. However, to change oneself to a child is too difficult. Jesus is giving much importance to “humbleness”.
Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Humbleness doesn’t mean that to become a fool. Bible teaches us to become very clever and accumulate wisdom and search for wisdom. Be clever like a snake and be pure like a dove. By humbleness he expects us to become without pride and pure in heart.
Be the blessings of our humble Savior who left the heavenly places and come down to the earth to save us with you, Amen.
