Pray for the Christian minorities in Orissa – India, are struggling to survive from the anti-social groups. They are being tortured.
Swami Lakshmanand Saraswati, belonging to the fanatic anti-Christian religious group, the VHP, was recently killed in Kandhamal, Orissa. News reports say that the killing was carried out by the Maoists insurgents (Naxalite groups). The Swami was instrumental in initiating the massive anti-Christian attacks in Christmas 2007, the worst against Christians in the known history of India, affecting thousands. This death of the Swami has created panic among Christians. The news that we have received from our pastors in the field are that some of the churches and vehicles have already been burnt in Phulbani and other parts of Orissa. In Kanjamendi 4 churches and one pastoral training center have been bombarded and a Jana Vikas NGO office and few computers have been burned down.
Churches have been burnt in Baliguda, Raikia, Nuagaon, Sadamendi and Barangada along with some of the believers houses in Katgad and other places. A children’s home in Muniguda, 4 motor bikes in Baliguda, one bus and missionary van at Udayagiri were also burnt.
The attack is still going on. A strike is going on which started yesterday in Orissa. People have started running to the forest to save their lives. Some of our believers and workers are also among them. What will happen next, in tomorrow’s strike is unknown. The field leaders inform that anti-Christian agitation seems to be an option the VHP leadership is considering.
